Rightly Dividing God

Now don’t think that I am losing it when I say that we need to rightly divide God. He is indivisible. For sure God’s Word is to rightly divide us. That is one of its many purposes.

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews‬ ‭4:12‬ ‭ESV‬‬

But, us divide God? No we cannot divide Him. That is, disect His essence. God is One. Still, as we rightly divide God’s Word, we discover that He is Three. God is Father. God is Son. God is Spirit. He is Three Persons in One God. So the Godhead is One in essence, but He is Three in personality, each Person distinct from the Other.

What I mean when I say that we are to rightly divide God is that from our finite limitations, how can we understand God? How has God made Himself known in His intrinsic nature to us? What is the basic make up of God? The simple answer, through His many attributes.

For the next few weeks my goal is to help draw our thoughts and attention away from the fears produced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Let’s refocus our cares to the only hope that can see us through to the end. Let’s fix our minds on God.

God is Infinite.

Infinite simply means “without limits.” God is not subject to limitation. He is beyond measure. God exists outside of and is not limited by time or space. Infinite is being endless, vast, immeasurable, and unbound.

God is not confined. We are finite in time, space and mass. We are subject to limitation. We are bound by the limits of creation. We are terminal. At least in the sense of what we know in the realm we currently inhabit.

God is Intimate

Our challenge is to resist the temptation to despair in times like this. People will perish. Everyone will sooner or later. Our only hope is to respond to God the Son. Jesus left unbound eternity and entered time as we know to give His life for eternal life. Praise our infinite and intimate God!
